Orpington Labour Party A better, fairer future for Orpington
Following the resolution that was passed overwhelmingly at the Monthly All Members Meeting of the Orpington Constituency Labour Party with regards to the behaviour of the Prime Minister following the publication of the Sue Gray Report, the following letter has been emailed to Gareth Bacon MP:
Dear Mr. Bacon
Firstly, I hope that this communication finds you well.
I would like to draw your attention to an emergency resolution that was passed overwhelmingly at the Orpington Constituency Labour Party’s Monthly All Member Meeting on 25th May 2022, which has resulted in this message to you. It reads:
“We call upon Gareth Bacon, the Member of Parliament for Orpington, to submit a letter of no confidence in the Prime Minister to the Chair of the 1922 Committee immediately now the findings of the Sue Gray enquiry into ‘Partygate’ have been published.
The Prime Minister has shown a totally disregard for the Covid rules which his Government introduced and implemented in 2020. His conduct has been disgraceful and is not compatible with that required of a Prime Minister and he should resign forthwith.
If he fails to do so Gareth Bacon must lobby fellow Tory MPs to vote him out of office as soon as possible.”
As I am sure you are aware there are strong feelings about this matter across the country, and recent polls have shown that the public is not yet willing to “move on” from this matter.
Also, we now believe that this issue has gone way beyond simple party politics. Obviously, we are from opposite ends of the political spectrum, and I am sure we will have our policy disagreements, but this is not about policy, this is about conduct and the dignity of the highest public office in the land. Even without Mr. Johnson as Prime Minister your party still holds a significant majority in the House and so it would still be your policy agenda that would be pursued whoever occupies that office.
We believe you are a reasonable person, and we hope that you read this message in the good faith in which it was sent, and I wish you well.
Yours sincerely
Chris Taylor
Chair – Orpington Labour Party
Richard Honess
Secretary – Orpington Labour Party
We await his reply which we will publish in due course.
