Remembrance Sunday

On Sunday I attended the Remembrance Parade at Orpington War Memorial to lay a wreath on behalf of Orpington Labour Party.

Recent headlines suggest that house prices have fallen by more than 10% over the last year. Potential good news for young families who have been struggling to buy their first home. But a potential disaster for anyone who bought a property at the height of the boom – often borrowing five times their annual salary, or even more with self certified mortgages. What, if anything, can the Labour government do?

Amendments to Partnership in Power

At our May meeting, members of Orpington Labour Party agreed to submit six amendments to the ‘Partnership in Power’ consultation documents. These amendments will be debated at the National Policy Forum and if adopted should be endorsed at the Labour Party Conference in the autumn.

Help Support Victims of Sexual Violence

It is estimated that 300,000 women are raped or subjected to a serious sexual assault every year. Conviction rates for attackers have fallen from 33 per cent in the 1970s to around 5 per cent today. Yet funding for Rape Crisis centres is falling and centres are closing. Please sign the e-petition at the Downing Street web site to press for better funding.

All Member Meetings for Orpington

At our recent AGM we agreed to move from our current Branch meeting and General Committee meeting structure to All Member meetings. This will allow all Orpington Labour Party members to attend a monthly CLP meeting, join in the discussion and take part in any vote.
