Ed Miliband visits the PRUH
On a visit to the Princess Royal University Hospital in Farnborough, Ed Miliband called for the NHS Bill to be scrapped – saving 6,000 nurses’ jobs. Please sign the new petition to stop the NHS Bill.
Labour leader Ed Miliband and shadow health secretary Andy Burnham met staff and patients at the Princess Royal University Hospital on Monday.
Figures released this week show 3,500 nurses have been lost since the general election – a number that could top 6,000 by the end of this Parliament. But only £750m of the £1.8bn set aside to pay for the implementation of the Health and Social Care Bill would be sufficient to retain all these jobs.
Ed said:
“Labour’s priority is protecting the frontline, not a pointless and damaging reorganisation of the NHS. So we are calling for the Bill to be scrapped, and for some of the money set aside to fund this reorganisation to instead be made available to the NHS to protect the thousands of nursing posts either already cut or set to be cut in the coming years.
In opposition David Cameron told people he could be trusted to protect the NHS. In government he has put Tory free-market ideology ahead of basic patient care.”
You can sign the petition to stop the Bill here. And please share it with anyone who believes – like the organisations representing 1.2 million NHS staff – that this top-down shake-up will do all harm and no good.
