Resolution on Government Action on Financial Crisis
Following discussions at its meeting on 22 October 2008, Orpington CLP passed a resolution on Government action on the financial crises.
Orpington CLP congratulates the British Government on taking a world lead with its bold and imaginative measures to tackle the grave crises threatening the UK and the world’s financial systems and economies.
This CLP urges the Government to continue seeking international agreements to establish sensible rules which should govern the operation of financial institutions and ensure that trading is limited to transparent products verified by truly independent and competent rating agencies.
This CLP also urges the Government to take advantage of the present consensus on the need for reform to ensure individuals and companies pay income and corporation taxes in the countries where the remuneration and the profits were genuinely earned and at the rates generally applicable.
