League Tables Show Continuing Improvement in Secondary School Results
While school league tables are still controversial, the latest results show significant improvements in GCSE and other results, with more schools reaching the "floor target" of 5 good GCSEs for 70% of pupils.
In England, the number of pupils getting 5 good GCSEs including English and Maths is up from 43% in 2004 to 46% in 2007. In Bromley, the improvement is from 49% in 2004 to 55% in 2007.
Great individual results for local schools were shown by Beaverwood School for Girls which made 16th place in the national table of most improved schools and Kemnal Technology College which has improved its good GCSE performance from 25% in 2004 to 49% in 2007.
The Kemnal Technology College results are particularly pleasing for me as I attended the school many years ago in its former guises of Cray Valley Technical High School and Kemnal Manor School for Boys. The Kemnal results are also remarkable given that 29.8% of pupils had special education needs in 2007.
