Remembrance Sunday
Today I attended the Remembrance Sunday parade at Orpington War Memorial to lay a wreath on behalf of Orpington Labour Party.
A large crowd gathered at Orpington War Memorial today for a brief but moving service of remembrance.
Wreaths were laid by the deputy mayor, a Colonel from the Canadian Air Force and representatives of various services and local organizations. I attended to lay a wreath on behalf of Orpington Labour Party. After the service at the War Memorial, the parade moved off to the war graves at Canada Corner next to All Saints Church.
My grandfather, Thomas Anderson, served as a marine in the Second World War. He died when HMS Barham was sunk in the Mediterranean in 1941. If a relative or friend of yours died during a recent or past war, I hope that you had them in your thoughts today.
